Sams Management skills
Picking a team, tactics, and substitutions are just part of the managers job, behind the scenes man management is a large part of management and this is where I believe Sam falls short. I fully understand certain players frustration at being on the bench or left out completely, as Sam picks his favorite son. We don't know the complete story regarding Zarate but when he plays he makes things happen and we look a much more threatening team,,and to see Nolan picked ahead of him must be a bitter pill for him to swallow. Nolan and Cole are past it and not for the future yet they continually feature. Many players have ben ignored so Nolan can play, besides Zarate there was Diame to an extent Morrison and Poyet. I don't believe our lofty position in the Premier is down to Sam but largely due to Sullivan, our midfield in past seasons have been the slowest in the division, but with Sullivan bringing in Sheringham and insisting to Sam to forget hoofball and providing funds to bring in top players has made the difference. Sam wont change he is a stubborn and arrogant man, some fans like him I don't, I hope he leaves in the summer and we bring in new blood someone like Eddie Howe

But in hindsight it's a good thread.........even though there are many that want to wallow in mid table mediocrity watching hoofball now it's back again..

I opened this thinking it was going to be an empty thread ----- ........we're actually debating whether he has management skills? That's like asking whhether a monkey can fly a 747.

Re: Sams Management skills
I would be starting every game with Sakho & Valencia & if either tired substitute with Zarate.

If we were facing a side weak in the air defensively, or we needed a human battering ram with 15 mins left on the clock then substitute with Carroll

Cole shouldn't even be anywhere near the bench

Nolan might have a little mileage left in him to bolster the midfield in the last 15 mins or so, using his professional tricks to run the clock down, if we're hanging on

Broadly agree but could this not go on one of the other Allardyce threads?

Re: Sams Management skills
In that case jack, I read your post in who!e

Quite agree, but I feel we could slot in Zarate as a full striker somehow. Better than cole and Nolan, and even Carroll on days he don't want to play (as tomorrow being so close to his birthday, fucking shambles...)

Crapnot ~ Ooops! You're dead right I typed "Valencia" I meant "Zarate"

I deserved that! ~ The rest of what I wrote should now make sense (well it does to me)

However, Valencia is not an alternative to any of those 3 players. He does not work hard

Stopped reading at that point 😵

Re: Sams Management skills
I agree that the likes of Nolan, Cole or possibly even Carroll should not be starting games for us

I also would say that the team selection & substitutions in the last 3 games has been woeful

However, Valencia is not an alternative to any of those 3 players. He does not work hard or track back.

He is being kept out of the team by Sakho, Valencia & Downing, all of whom have been doing a superb job

All 3 should be automatic starters, in which case there is simply nowhere to fit Zarate in

That isn't the case regarding the departed Diame, Morrison or certainly, Poyet, all of whom have the ability to track back, tackle & work hard

Ironically, now that Sakho is off to Africa, he appears to have missed his opportunity to impress, by taking the sulks

I don't think you can hold that against BFS, but because of him stubbornly going back to Nolan & Carroll, when other (better in my opinion) options have been available I would like to see a change at the end of the season for a proven manager, not Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe has done really well, but not at the level we're hoping to attain
